بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
2:1:1ʾalif lām mīmAlif Laam Meem
۝١
Alif, Lam, Meem.
2:2:1ðālikᵃThat
2:2:2ₐlkitābᵘ(is) the book
2:2:4raybᵃdoubt
2:2:5fīhⁱin it,
2:2:6hudaⁿa Guidance
2:2:7llilmuttaqīnᵃfor the God-conscious.
۝٢
This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah -
2:3:1ₐllaðīnᵃThose who
2:3:2yuʾminūnᵃbelieve
2:3:3biₐlġaybⁱin the unseen,
2:3:4wayuqīmūnᵃand establish
2:3:5ₐlṣṣalawẗᵃthe prayer,
2:3:6wamimmāand out of what
2:3:7razaqnāhumWe have provided them
2:3:8yunfiqūnᵃthey spend.
۝٣
Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them,
2:4:1waₐllaðīnᵃAnd those who
2:4:2yuʾminūnᵃbelieve
2:4:3bimāin what
2:4:4ʾunzilᵃ(is) sent down
2:4:5ʾilaykᵃto you
2:4:6wamāand what
2:4:7ʾunzilᵃwas sent down
2:4:9qablikᵃbefore you
2:4:10wabiₐlʾāḫiraẗⁱand in the Hereafter
2:4:12yūqinūnᵃfirmly believe.
۝٤
And who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith].
2:5:2ʕalā(are) on
2:5:3hudaⁿGuidance
2:5:5rrabbihimtheir Lord,
2:5:6waʾulāʾikᵃand those -
2:5:7humᵘthey
2:5:8ₐlmufliḥūnᵃ(are) the successful ones.
۝٥
Those are upon [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.
2:6:1ʾinnᵃIndeed,
2:6:2ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
2:6:3kafarūdisbelieve[d],
2:6:4sawāʾᵘⁿ(it) is same
2:6:6ʾaʾanðartahumwhether you warn them
2:6:9tunðirhumyou warn them,
2:6:11yuʾminūnᵃthey believe.
۝٦
Indeed, those who disbelieve - it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe.
2:7:1ḫatamᵃHas set a seal
2:7:2ₐllahᵘAllah
2:7:4qulūbihimtheir hearts
2:7:5waʕalāand on
2:7:6samʕihimtheir hearing,
2:7:8ʾabṣārihimtheir vision
2:7:9ġišāwaẗᵘⁿ(is) a veil.
2:7:10walahumAnd for them
2:7:11ʕaðābᵘⁿ(is) a punishment
2:7:12ʕaẓīmᵘⁿgreat.
۝٧
Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing, and over their vision is a veil. And for them is a great punishment.
2:8:1waminᵃAnd of
2:8:2ₐlnnāsⁱthe people
2:8:3man(are some) who
2:8:4yaqūlᵘsay,
2:8:5ʾāmannā"We believed
2:8:6biₐllahⁱin Allah
2:8:7wabiₐlyawmⁱand in the Day
2:8:8ₐlʾāḫirⁱ[the] Last,"
2:8:9wamābut not
2:8:11bimuʾminīnᵃ(are) believers (at all).
۝٨
And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," but they are not believers.
2:9:1yuḫādiʕūnᵃThey seek to deceive
2:9:2ₐllahᵃAllah
2:9:3waₐllaðīnᵃand those who
2:9:4ʾāmanūbelieve[d],
2:9:5wamāand not
2:9:6yaḫdaʕūnᵃthey deceive
2:9:7ʾillāexcept
2:9:8ʾanfusahumthemselves,
2:9:9wamāand not
2:9:10yašʕurūnᵃthey realize (it).
۝٩
They [think to] deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not.
2:10:2qulūbihimtheir hearts
2:10:3mmaraḍᵘⁿ(is) a disease,
2:10:4fazādahumᵘso has increased them
2:10:5ₐllahᵘAllah
2:10:6maraḍaⁿ(in) disease;
2:10:7walahumand for them
2:10:8ʕaðābᵘⁿ(is) a punishment
2:10:9ʾalīmᵘⁿᵐpainful
2:10:10bimābecause
2:10:11kānūthey used to
2:10:12yakðibūnᵃ[they] lie.
۝١٠
In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie.
2:11:1waʾiðāAnd when
2:11:2qīlᵃit is said
2:11:3lahumto them,
2:11:4"(Do) not
2:11:5tufsidūspread corruption
2:11:7ₐlʾarḍⁱthe earth,"
2:11:11muṣliḥūnᵃ(are) reformers."
۝١١
And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers."
2:12:1ʾalāBeware,
2:12:2ʾinnahumindeed they
2:12:3humᵘthemselves
2:12:4ₐlmufsidūnᵃ(are) the ones who spread corruption,
2:12:5walākin[and] but
2:12:7yašʕurūnᵃthey realize (it).
۝١٢
Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not.
2:13:1waʾiðāAnd when
2:13:2qīlᵃit is said
2:13:3lahumto them,
2:13:6ʾāmanᵃbelieved
2:13:7ₐlnnāsᵘthe people,"
2:13:9ʾanuʾminᵘ"Should we believe
2:13:11ʾāmanᵃbelieved
2:13:12ₐlssufahāʾᵘthe fools?"
2:13:13ʾalāBeware,
2:13:14ʾinnahumcertainly they
2:13:15humᵘthemselves
2:13:16ₐlssufahāʾᵘ(are) the fools
2:13:17walākin[and] but
2:13:19yaʕlamūnᵃthey know.
۝١٣
And when it is said to them, "Believe as the people have believed," they say, "Should we believe as the foolish have believed?" Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish, but they know [it] not.
2:14:1waʾiðāAnd when
2:14:2laqūthey meet
2:14:3ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
2:14:4ʾāmanūbelieve[d],
2:14:6ʾāmannā"We believe[d]."
2:14:7waʾiðāBut when
2:14:8ḫalawthey are alone
2:14:10šayāṭīnihimtheir evil ones,
2:14:12ʾinnā"Indeed, we
2:14:13maʕakum(are) with you,
2:14:16mustahziʾūnᵃ(are) mockers."
۝١٤
And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We believe"; but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, "Indeed, we are with you; we were only mockers."
2:15:1ₐllahᵘAllah
2:15:3bihimat them,
2:15:4wayamudduhumand prolongs them
2:15:6ṭuġyānihimtheir transgression,
2:15:7yaʕmahūnᵃthey wander blindly.
۝١٥
[But] Allah mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression [while] they wander blindly.
2:16:2ₐllaðīnᵃ(are) the ones who
2:16:4ₐlḍḍalālaẗᵃ[the] astraying
2:16:5biₐlhudāfor [the] guidance.
2:16:6famāSo not
2:16:7rabiḥatprofited
2:16:8ttijāratuhumtheir commerce
2:16:9wamāand not
2:16:11muhtadīnᵃguided-ones.
۝١٦
Those are the ones who have purchased error [in exchange] for guidance, so their transaction has brought no profit, nor were they guided.
2:17:1maθaluhumTheir example
2:17:2kamaθalⁱ(is) like (the) example
2:17:3ₐllaðī(of) the one who
2:17:4ᵢstawqadᵃkindled
2:17:5nāraⁿa fire,
2:17:6falammāthen, when
2:17:7ʾaḍāʾatit illuminated
2:17:9ḥawlahu(was) around him
2:17:10ðahabᵃtook away
2:17:11ₐllahᵘAllah
2:17:12binūrihimtheir light
2:17:13watarakahumand left them
2:17:15ẓulumātⁱⁿdarkness[es],
2:17:16llā(so) not
2:17:17yubṣirūnᵃ(do) they see.
۝١٧
Their example is that of one who kindled a fire, but when it illuminated what was around him, Allah took away their light and left them in darkness [so] they could not see.
2:18:1ṣummᵘⁿᵐDeaf,
2:18:2bukmᵘⁿdumb,
2:18:3ʕumāᵘⁿblind,
2:18:4fahumso they
2:18:6yarjiʕūnᵃ[they] will not return.
۝١٨
Deaf, dumb and blind - so they will not return [to the right path].
2:19:2kaṣayyibⁱⁿlike a rainstorm
2:19:3mminᵃfrom
2:19:4ₐlssamāʾⁱthe sky
2:19:5fīhⁱin it (are)
2:19:6ẓulumātᵘⁿdarkness[es],
2:19:7waraʕdᵘⁿand thunder,
2:19:8wabarqᵘⁿand lightning.
2:19:9yajʕalūnᵃThey put
2:19:10ʾaṣābiʕahumtheir fingers
2:19:12ʾāðānihimtheir ears
2:19:14ₐlṣṣawāʕiqⁱthe thunderclaps
2:19:15ḥaðarᵃ(in) fear (of)
2:19:16ₐlmawtⁱ[the] death.
2:19:17waₐllahᵘAnd Allah
2:19:18muḥīṭᵘⁿᵐ(is) [the One Who] encompasses
2:19:19biₐlkāfirīnᵃthe disbelievers.
۝١٩
Or [it is] like a rainstorm from the sky within which is darkness, thunder and lightning. They put their fingers in their ears against the thunderclaps in dread of death. But Allah is encompassing of the disbelievers.
2:20:1yakādᵘAlmost
2:20:2ₐlbarqᵘthe lightning
2:20:3yaḫṭafᵘsnatches away
2:20:4ʾabṣārahumtheir sight.
2:20:5kullamāWhenever
2:20:6ʾaḍāʾᵃit flashes
2:20:7lahumfor them
2:20:8mmašawthey walk
2:20:9fīhⁱin it,
2:20:10waʾiðāand when
2:20:11ʾaẓlamᵃit darkens
2:20:13qāmūthey stand (still).
2:20:15šāʾᵃhad willed
2:20:16ₐllahᵘAllah,
2:20:17laðahabᵃHe would certainly have taken away
2:20:18bisamʕihimtheir hearing,
2:20:19waʾabṣārihimand their sight.
2:20:20ʾinnᵃIndeed,
2:20:21ₐllahᵃAllah
2:20:22ʕalā(is) on
2:20:23kullⁱevery
2:20:24šayʾⁱⁿthing
2:20:25qadīrᵘⁿAll-Powerful.
۝٢٠
The lightning almost snatches away their sight. Every time it lights [the way] for them, they walk therein; but when darkness comes over them, they stand [still]. And if Allah had willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.
2:21:2ₐlnnāsᵘmankind!
2:21:4rabbakumᵘyour Lord,
2:21:5ₐllaðīthe One Who
2:21:6ḫalaqakumcreated you
2:21:7waₐllaðīnᵃand those
2:21:9qablikumbefore you,
2:21:10laʕallakumso that you may
2:21:11tattaqūnᵃbecome righteous.
۝٢١
O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous -
2:22:1ₐllaðīThe One Who
2:22:2jaʕalᵃmade
2:22:3lakumᵘfor you
2:22:4ₐlʾarḍᵃthe earth

2:22:6waₐlssamāʾᵃand the sky
2:22:7bināʾᵃⁿa canopy,
2:22:8waʾanzalᵃand sent down
2:22:9minᵃfrom
2:22:10ₐlssamāʾⁱthe sky
2:22:11māʾᵃⁿwater,
2:22:12faʾaḫrajᵃthen brought forth
2:22:13bihitherewith
2:22:14minᵃ[of]
2:22:15ₐlθθamarātⁱthe fruits
2:22:16rizqaⁿ(as) provision
2:22:17llakumfor you.
2:22:18falāSo (do) not
2:22:20lillahⁱto Allah
2:22:21ʾandādaⁿrivals
2:22:22waʾantumwhile you
2:22:23taʕlamūnᵃ[you] know.
۝٢٢
[He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him].
2:23:1waʾinAnd if
2:23:4raybⁱⁿdoubt
2:23:5mmimmāabout what
2:23:6nazzalnāWe have revealed
2:23:8ʕabdināOur slave,
2:23:9faʾtūthen produce
2:23:10bisūraẗⁱⁿa chapter
2:23:13waᵤdʕūand call
2:23:14šuhadāʾakumyour witnesses
2:23:16dūnⁱother than
2:23:17ₐllahⁱAllah
2:23:20ṣādiqīnᵃtruthful.
۝٢٣
And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful.
2:24:1faʾinBut if
2:24:4walanand never
2:24:5tafʕalūwill you do,
2:24:6faᵢttaqūthen fear
2:24:7ₐlnnārᵃthe Fire
2:24:8ₐllatīwhose
2:24:9waqūduhā[its] fuel
2:24:10ₐlnnāsᵘ(is) [the] men
2:24:11waₐlḥijāraẗᵘand [the] stones,
2:24:12ʾuʕiddatprepared
2:24:13lilkāfirīnᵃfor the disbelievers.
۝٢٤
But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.
2:25:1wabašširⁱAnd give good news
2:25:2ₐllaðīnᵃ(to) those who
2:25:5ₐlṣṣāliḥātⁱ[the] righteous deeds,
2:25:6ʾannᵃthat
2:25:7lahumfor them

2:25:12ₐlʾanhārᵘthe rivers.
2:25:13kullamāEvery time
2:25:14ruziqūthey are provided

2:25:18rrizqaⁿ(as) provision,
2:25:19qālūthey (will) say,
2:25:20hāðā"This (is)
2:25:21ₐllaðīthe one which
2:25:22ruziqnāwe were provided
2:25:24qablᵘbefore."
2:25:25waʾutūAnd they will be given
2:25:26bihitherefrom
2:25:27mutašābihaⁿ(things) in resemblance;
2:25:28walahumAnd for them
2:25:30ʾazwājᵘⁿspouses
2:25:31mmuṭahharaẗᵘⁿpurified,
2:25:32wahumand they
2:25:33fīhātherein
2:25:34ḫālidūnᵃ(will) abide forever.
۝٢٥
And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with a provision of fruit therefrom, they will say, "This is what we were provided with before." And it is given to them in likeness. And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally.
