4:12:1walakumAnd for you
4:12:2niṣfᵘ(is) half
4:12:3(of) what
4:12:4tarakᵃ(is) left
4:12:5ʾazwājukumby your wives
4:12:9llahunnᵃfor them
4:12:10waladᵘⁿa child.
4:12:11faʾinBut if
4:12:13lahunnᵃfor them
4:12:14waladᵘⁿa child,
4:12:15falakumᵘthen for you
4:12:16ₐlrrubuʕᵘ(is) the fourth
4:12:17mimmāof what
4:12:18taraknᵃthey left,
4:12:19minᵐfrom
4:12:20baʕdⁱafter
4:12:21waṣiyyaẗⁱⁿany will
4:12:22yūṣīnᵃthey have made
4:12:23bihā[for which]
4:12:25daynⁱⁿany debt.
4:12:26walahunnᵃAnd for them
4:12:27ₐlrrubuʕᵘ(is) the fourth
4:12:28mimmāof what
4:12:34waladᵘⁿa child.
4:12:35faʾinBut if
4:12:38waladᵘⁿa child,
4:12:39falahunnᵃthen for them
4:12:40ₐlθθumunᵘ(is) the eighth
4:12:41mimmāof what
4:12:44baʕdⁱafter
4:12:45waṣiyyaẗⁱⁿany will
4:12:46tūṣūnᵃyou have made
4:12:47bihā[for which]
4:12:49daynⁱⁿany debt.
4:12:50waʾinAnd if
4:12:52rajulᵘⁿa man
4:12:53yūraθᵘ(whose wealth) is to be inherited
4:12:54kalālaẗᵃⁿ(has) no parent or child
4:12:56ᵢmraʾaẗᵘⁿa women
4:12:57walahuand for him
4:12:58ʾaḫᵘⁿ(is) a brother
4:12:60ʾuḫtᵘⁿa sister,
4:12:61falikullⁱthen for each
4:12:62wāḥidⁱⁿone
4:12:63mminhumāof (the) two
4:12:64ₐlssudusᵘ(is) the sixth.
4:12:65faʾinBut if
4:12:69ðālikᵃthat,
4:12:70fahumthen they
4:12:71šurakāʾᵘ(are) partners
4:12:73ₐlθθuluθⁱthe third,
4:12:74minᵐfrom
4:12:75baʕdⁱafter
4:12:76waṣiyyaẗⁱⁿany will
4:12:77yūṣāwas made
4:12:78bihā[for which]
4:12:80daynⁱⁿany debt
4:12:81ġayrᵃwithout
4:12:82muḍārrⁱⁿ(being) harmful.
4:12:83waṣiyyaẗᵃⁿAn ordinance
4:12:85ₐllahⁱAllah.
4:12:86waₐllahᵘAnd Allah
4:12:87ʕalīmᵘⁿ(is) All-Knowing,
4:12:88ḥalīmᵘⁿAll-Forbearing.
۝١٢
And for you is half of what your wives leave if they have no child. But if they have a child, for you is one fourth of what they leave, after any bequest they [may have] made or debt. And for the wives is one fourth if you leave no child. But if you leave a child, then for them is an eighth of what you leave, after any bequest you [may have] made or debt. And if a man or woman leaves neither ascendants nor descendants but has a brother or a sister, then for each one of them is a sixth. But if they are more than two, they share a third, after any bequest which was made or debt, as long as there is no detriment [caused]. [This is] an ordinance from Allah, and Allah is Knowing and Forbearing.
4:13:1tilkᵃThese
4:13:2ḥudūdᵘ(are the) limits
4:13:3ₐllahⁱ(of) Allah,
4:13:4wamanand whoever
4:13:5yuṭiʕⁱobeys
4:13:6ₐllahᵃAllah
4:13:7warasūlahuand His Messenger,
4:13:8yudḫilhᵘHe will admit him
4:13:9jannātⁱⁿ(to) Gardens
4:13:12taḥtihāunderneath them
4:13:13ₐlʾanhārᵘthe rivers -
4:13:14ḫālidīnᵃ(will) abide forever
4:13:16waðālikᵃAnd that
4:13:17ₐlfawzᵘ(is) the success
4:13:18ₐlʕaẓīmᵘ[the] great.
۝١٣
These are the limits [set by] Allah, and whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger will be admitted by Him to gardens [in Paradise] under which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein; and that is the great attainment.
4:14:1wamanAnd whoever
4:14:2yaʕṣⁱdisobeys
4:14:3ₐllahᵃAllah
4:14:4warasūlahuand His Messenger
4:14:5wayataʕaddᵃand transgresses
4:14:6ḥudūdahuHis limits -
4:14:7yudḫilhᵘHe will admit him
4:14:8nāraⁿ(to) Fire
4:14:9ḫālidaⁿ(will) abide forever
4:14:11walahuAnd for him
4:14:12ʕaðābᵘⁿ(is) a punishment
4:14:13mmuhīnᵘⁿhumiliating.
۝١٤
And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger and transgresses His limits - He will put him into the Fire to abide eternally therein, and he will have a humiliating punishment.
4:15:1waₐllātīAnd those who
4:15:2yaʾtīnᵃcommit
4:15:3ₐlfāḥišaẗᵃ[the] immorality
4:15:5nnisāʾikumyour women
4:15:6faᵢstašhidūthen call to witness
4:15:7ʕalayhinnᵃagainst them
4:15:8ʾarbaʕaẗᵃⁿfour
4:15:9mminkumamong you.
4:15:10faʾinAnd if
4:15:11šahidūthey testify
4:15:12faʾamsikūhunnᵃthen confine them
4:15:14ₐlbuyūtⁱtheir houses
4:15:16yatawaffāhunnᵃcomes to them
4:15:17ₐlmawtᵘ[the] death
4:15:20ₐllahᵘAllah
4:15:21lahunnᵃfor them
4:15:22sabīlaⁿa way.
۝١٥
Those who commit unlawful sexual intercourse of your women - bring against them four [witnesses] from among you. And if they testify, confine the guilty women to houses until death takes them or Allah ordains for them [another] way.
4:16:1waₐllaðānⁱAnd the two who
4:16:2yaʾtiyānihācommit it
4:16:3minkumamong you,
4:16:4faʾāðūhumāthen punish both of them.
4:16:5faʾinBut if
4:16:6tābāthey repent
4:16:7waʾaṣlaḥāand correct themselves,
4:16:8faʾaʕriḍūthen turn away
4:16:9ʕanhumāfrom both of them.
4:16:10ʾinnᵃIndeed,
4:16:11ₐllahᵃAllah
4:16:13tawwābaⁿOft-Forgiving,
4:16:14rraḥīmaⁿMost-Merciful.
۝١٦
And the two who commit it among you, dishonor them both. But if they repent and correct themselves, leave them alone. Indeed, Allah is ever Accepting of repentance and Merciful.
4:17:2ₐlttawbaẗᵘthe acceptance of repentance
4:17:4ₐllahⁱAllah
4:17:5lillaðīnᵃ(is) for those who
4:17:7ₐlssūʾᵃthe evil
4:17:8bijahālaẗⁱⁿin ignorance,
4:17:9θummᵃthen
4:17:10yatūbūnᵃthey repent
4:17:12qarībⁱⁿsoon after.
4:17:13faʾulāʾikᵃThen those
4:17:14yatūbᵘwill have forgiveness
4:17:15ₐllahᵘ(from) Allah
4:17:16ʕalayhimupon them,
4:17:17wakānᵃand is
4:17:18ₐllahᵘAllah
4:17:19ʕalīmaⁿAll-Knowing,
4:17:20ḥakīmaⁿAll-Wise.
۝١٧
The repentance accepted by Allah is only for those who do wrong in ignorance [or carelessness] and then repent soon after. It is those to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness, and Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.
4:18:1walaysatⁱAnd not
4:18:2ₐlttawbaẗᵘ(is) the acceptance of repentance
4:18:3lillaðīnᵃfor those who
4:18:5ₐlssayyiʾātⁱthe evil deeds
4:18:7ʾiðāwhen
4:18:8ḥaḍarᵃapproaches
4:18:9ʾaḥadahumᵘone of them
4:18:10ₐlmawtᵘ[the] death,
4:18:11qālᵃhe says,
4:18:12ʾinnī"Indeed I
4:18:13tubtᵘrepent
4:18:14ₐlʾānᵃnow;"
4:18:15walāand not
4:18:16ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
4:18:18wahumwhile they
4:18:19kuffārᵘⁿ(are) disbelievers.
4:18:21ʾaʕtadnāWe have prepared
4:18:22lahumfor them
4:18:23ʕaðābaⁿa punishment
4:18:24ʾalīmaⁿpainful.
۝١٨
But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I have repented now," or of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.
4:19:2ₐllaðīnᵃwho
4:19:3ʾāmanūbelieve[d]!
4:19:5yaḥillᵘ(is) lawful
4:19:6lakumfor you
4:19:7ʾanthat
4:19:8tariθūyou inherit
4:19:9ₐlnnisāʾᵃthe women
4:19:10karhaⁿ(by) force.
4:19:11walāAnd not
4:19:12taʕḍulūhunnᵃyou constraint them
4:19:13litaðhabūso that you may take
4:19:14bibaʕḍⁱa part
4:19:15(of) what
4:19:16ʾātaytumūhunnᵃyou have given them
4:19:19yaʾtīnᵃthey commit
4:19:20bifāḥišaẗⁱⁿimmorality
4:19:21mmubayyinaẗⁱⁿopen.
4:19:22waʕāširūhunnᵃAnd live with them
4:19:23biₐlmaʕrūfⁱin kindness.
4:19:24faʾinBut if
4:19:25karihtumūhunnᵃyou dislike them,
4:19:26faʕasāthen perhaps
4:19:29šayʾaⁿa thing
4:19:30wayajʕalᵃand has placed
4:19:31ₐllahᵘAllah
4:19:32fīhⁱin it
4:19:33ḫayraⁿgood
4:19:34kaθīraⁿmuch.
۝١٩
O you who have believed, it is not lawful for you to inherit women by compulsion. And do not make difficulties for them in order to take [back] part of what you gave them unless they commit a clear immorality. And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good.
4:20:1waʾinAnd if
4:20:2ʾaradttumᵘyou intend
4:20:3ᵢstibdālᵃreplacing
4:20:4zawjⁱⁿa wife
4:20:5mmakānᵃ(in) place
4:20:6zawjⁱⁿ(of) a wife
4:20:7waʾātaytumand you have given
4:20:8ʾiḥdāhunnᵃone of them
4:20:9qinṭāraⁿheap (of gold)
4:20:10falāthen (do) not
4:20:11taʾḫuðūtake away
4:20:12minhᵘfrom it
4:20:13šayʾaⁿanything.
4:20:14ʾataʾḫuðūnahuWould you take it
4:20:15buhtānaⁿ(by) slander
4:20:16waʾiθmaⁿand a sin
۝٢٠
But if you want to replace one wife with another and you have given one of them a great amount [in gifts], do not take [back] from it anything. Would you take it in injustice and manifest sin?
4:21:1wakayfᵃAnd how
4:21:2taʾḫuðūnahucould you take it
4:21:3waqadwhen surely
4:21:4ʾafḍāhas gone -
4:21:5baʕḍukumone of you
4:21:7baʕḍⁱⁿanother,
4:21:8waʾaḫaðnᵃand they have taken
4:21:9minkumfrom you
4:21:10mmīθāqaⁿcovenant
4:21:11ġalīẓaⁿstrong?
۝٢١
And how could you take it while you have gone in unto each other and they have taken from you a solemn covenant?
4:22:1walāAnd (do) not
4:22:4nakaḥᵃmarried
4:22:5ʾābāʾukumyour fathers
4:22:7ₐlnnisāʾⁱthe women
4:22:8ʾillāexcept
4:22:11salafᵃpassed before,
4:22:12ʾinnahuindeed it
4:22:14fāḥišaẗᵃⁿan immorality
4:22:15wamaqtaⁿand hateful,
4:22:16wasāʾᵃand (an) evil
۝٢٢
And do not marry those [women] whom your fathers married, except what has already occurred. Indeed, it was an immorality and hateful [to Allah] and was evil as a way.
4:23:1ḥurrimatForbidden
4:23:3ʾummahātukum(are) your mothers
4:23:4wabanātukumand your daughters
4:23:5waʾaḫawātukumand your sisters
4:23:6waʕammātukumand your father's sisters
4:23:7waḫālātukumand your mother's sisters
4:23:8wabanātᵘand daughters
4:23:9ₐlʾaḫⁱ(of) brothers,
4:23:10wabanātᵘand daughters
4:23:11ₐlʾuḫtⁱ(of) sisters
4:23:12waʾummahātukumᵘand (the) mothers
4:23:14ʾarḍaʕnakumnursed you
4:23:15waʾaḫawātukumand your sisters
4:23:17ₐlrraḍāʕaẗⁱthe nursing
4:23:18waʾummahātᵘand mothers
4:23:19nisāʾikum(of) your wives
4:23:20warabāʾibukumᵘand your step daughters
4:23:22(are) in
4:23:23ḥujūrikumyour guardianship
4:23:25nnisāʾikumᵘyour women
4:23:27daḫaltumyou had relations
4:23:28bihinnᵃwith them,
4:23:29faʾinbut if
4:23:32daḫaltumrelations
4:23:33bihinnᵃwith them,
4:23:34falāthen (there is) no
4:23:35junāḥᵃsin
4:23:37waḥalāʾilᵘAnd wives
4:23:38ʾabnāʾikumᵘ(of) your sons,
4:23:39ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
4:23:40min(are) from
4:23:41ʾaṣlābikumyour loins
4:23:42waʾanand that
4:23:43tajmaʕūyou gather together
4:23:44baynᵃ[between]
4:23:45ₐlʾuḫtaynⁱtwo sisters
4:23:46ʾillāexcept
4:23:49salafᵃpassed before.
4:23:50ʾinnᵃIndeed,
4:23:51ₐllahᵃAllah
4:23:53ġafūraⁿOft-Forgiving,
4:23:54rraḥīmaⁿMost-Merciful.
۝٢٣
Prohibited to you [for marriage] are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your father's sisters, your mother's sisters, your brother's daughters, your sister's daughters, your [milk] mothers who nursed you, your sisters through nursing, your wives' mothers, and your step-daughters under your guardianship [born] of your wives unto whom you have gone in. But if you have not gone in unto them, there is no sin upon you. And [also prohibited are] the wives of your sons who are from your [own] loins, and that you take [in marriage] two sisters simultaneously, except for what has already occurred. Indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.
