12:7:1llaqadCertainly

Certainly were there in Joseph and his brothers signs for those who ask,
12:8:2qālūthey said,
12:8:3layūsufᵘ"Surely Yusuf

Said a speaker among them, "Do not kill Joseph but throw him into the bottom of the well; some travelers will pick him up - if you would do [something]."
12:11:1qālūThey said,

Send him with us tomorrow that he may eat well and play. And indeed, we will be his guardians.
12:13:1qālᵃHe said,
12:13:2ʾinnī"Indeed, [I]

۝١٤
They said, "If a wolf should eat him while we are a [strong] clan, indeed, we would then be losers."
12:15:2ðahabūthey took him
12:15:6yajʕalūhᵘthey put him

۝١٥
So when they took him [out] and agreed to put him into the bottom of the well... But We inspired to him, "You will surely inform them [someday] about this affair of theirs while they do not perceive [your identity]."
12:16:1wajāʾūAnd they came

۝١٧
They said, "O our father, indeed we went racing each other and left Joseph with our possessions, and a wolf ate him. But you would not believe us, even if we were truthful."
12:18:1wajāʾūAnd they brought

12:18:6qālᵃHe said,

۝١٨
And they brought upon his shirt false blood. [Jacob] said, "Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. And Allah is the one sought for help against that which you describe."
12:19:1wajāʾatAnd there came
12:19:2sayyāraẗᵘⁿa caravan
12:19:3faʾarsalūand they sent
12:19:4wāridahumtheir water drawer
12:19:5faʾadlāthen he let down
12:19:6dalwahuhis bucket.
12:19:7qālᵃHe said,
12:19:8yābušrā"O good news!
12:19:10ġulāmᵘⁿ(is) a boy."
12:19:11waʾasarrūhᵘAnd they hid him
12:19:12biḍāʕaẗᵃⁿ(as) a merchandise.
12:19:13waₐllahᵘAnd Allah
12:19:14ʕalīmᵘⁿᵐ(is) All-Knower
12:19:15bimāof what
12:19:16yaʕmalūnᵃthey do.
۝١٩
And there came a company of travelers; then they sent their water drawer, and he let down his bucket. He said, "Good news! Here is a boy." And they concealed him, [taking him] as merchandise; and Allah was knowing of what they did.
12:20:1wašarawhᵘAnd they sold him
12:20:2biθamanⁱⁿfor a price
12:20:3baḫsⁱⁿvery low,
12:20:4darāhimᵃdirhams
12:20:5maʕdūdaẗⁱⁿfew,
12:20:6wakānūand they were
12:20:7fīhⁱabout him

۝٢٠
And they sold him for a reduced price - a few dirhams - and they were, concerning him, of those content with little.
12:21:1waqālᵃAnd said
12:21:2ₐllaðīthe one who
12:21:3ᵢštarāhᵘbought him
12:21:5mmiṣrᵃEgypt
12:21:6liᵢmraʾatihito his wife,
12:21:7ʾakrimī"Make comfortable
12:21:8maθwāhᵘhis stay.
12:21:11yanfaʕanā(he) will benefit us
12:21:13nattaḫiðahuwe will take him
12:21:14waladaⁿ(as) a son."
12:21:15wakaðālikᵃAnd thus
12:21:16makkannāWe established
12:21:19ₐlʾarḍⁱthe land
12:21:20walinuʕallimahuthat We might teach him
12:21:21min(the) interpretation of
12:21:23ₐlʾaḥādīθⁱthe events.
12:21:24waₐllahᵘAnd Allah
12:21:25ġālibᵘⁿ(is) Predominant
12:21:27ʾamrihiHis affairs,
12:21:30ₐlnnāsⁱ(of) the people
12:21:31(do) not
۝٢١
And the one from Egypt who bought him said to his wife, "Make his residence comfortable. Perhaps he will benefit us, or we will adopt him as a son." And thus, We established Joseph in the land that We might teach him the interpretation of events. And Allah is predominant over His affair, but most of the people do not know.
12:22:1walammāAnd when
12:22:2balaġᵃhe reached
12:22:3ʾašuddahuhis maturity,
12:22:4ʾātaynāhᵘWe gave him
12:22:5ḥukmaⁿwisdom

12:22:7wakaðālikᵃAnd thus
12:22:8najzīWe reward
12:22:9ₐlmuḥsinīnᵃthe good-doers.
۝٢٢
And when Joseph reached maturity, We gave him judgment and knowledge. And thus We reward the doers of good.
12:23:1warāwadathᵘAnd sought to seduce him
12:23:2ₐllatīshe who,
12:23:3huwᵃhe (was)

12:23:9ₐlʾabwābᵃthe doors
12:23:10waqālatand she said,
12:23:11haytᵃ"Come on
12:23:12lakᵃyou."
12:23:13qālᵃHe said,
12:23:14maʕāðᵃ"I seek refuge in Allah.
12:23:16ʾinnahuIndeed, he
12:23:17rabbī(is) my lord
12:23:18ʾaḥsanᵃ(who has) made good
12:23:19maθwāāᵃmy stay.
12:23:22yufliḥᵘwill succeed
12:23:23ₐlẓẓālimūnᵃthe wrongdoers."
۝٢٣
And she, in whose house he was, sought to seduce him. She closed the doors and said, "Come, you." He said, "[I seek] the refuge of Allah. Indeed, he is my master, who has made good my residence. Indeed, wrongdoers will not succeed."
12:24:1walaqadAnd certainly
12:24:2hammatshe did desire
12:24:4wahammᵃand he would have desired
12:24:8rraʾāhe saw
12:24:9burhānᵃthe proof
12:24:10rabbihi(of) his Lord.
12:24:12linaṣrifᵃthat We might avert
12:24:13ʕanhᵘfrom him
12:24:14ₐlssūʾᵃthe evil
12:24:15waₐlfaḥšāʾᵃand the immorality.
12:24:16ʾinnahuIndeed, he
12:24:17min(was) of
12:24:18ʕibādināOur slaves

۝٢٤
And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her had he not seen the proof of his Lord. And thus [it was] that We should avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants.
12:25:1waᵢstabaqāAnd they both raced
12:25:2ₐlbābᵃ(to) the door
12:25:3waqaddatand she tore
12:25:4qamīṣahuhis shirt

12:25:7waʾalfayāand they both found
12:25:8sayyidahāher husband

12:25:11qālatShe said,

۝٢٥
And they both raced to the door, and she tore his shirt from the back, and they found her husband at the door. She said, "What is the recompense of one who intended evil for your wife but that he be imprisoned or a painful punishment?"
12:26:1qālᵃHe said,
12:26:2hīᵃ"She
12:26:3rāwadatnīsought to seduce me
12:26:4ʕanabout
12:26:6wašahidᵃAnd testified

12:26:16faṣadaqatthen she has spoken the truth,
12:26:17wahuwᵃand he
12:26:18minᵃ(is) of
12:26:19ₐlkāðibīnᵃthe liars.
۝٢٦
[Joseph] said, "It was she who sought to seduce me." And a witness from her family testified. "If his shirt is torn from the front, then she has told the truth, and he is of the liars.
12:27:1waʾinBut if
12:27:3qamīṣuhuhis shirt

۝٢٧
But if his shirt is torn from the back, then she has lied, and he is of the truthful."
12:28:2raʾāhe saw

12:28:7qālᵃhe said,

۝٢٩
Joseph, ignore this. And, [my wife], ask forgiveness for your sin. Indeed, you were of the sinful."
