The Prophets
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
21:1:1ᵢqtarabᵃ(Has) approached
21:1:2lilnnāsⁱfor [the] mankind
21:1:3ḥisābuhumtheir account,
21:1:4wahumwhile they
21:1:5(are) in
21:1:6ġaflaẗⁱⁿheedlessness
21:1:7mmuʕriḍūnᵃturning away.
۝١
[The time of] their account has approached for the people, while they are in heedlessness turning away.
21:2:2yaʾtīhimcomes to them
21:2:4ðikrⁱⁿa Reminder
21:2:6rrabbihimtheir Lord,
21:2:7mmuḥdaθⁱⁿanew
21:2:8ʾillāexcept
21:2:9ᵢstamaʕūhᵘthey listen to it
21:2:10wahumwhile they
21:2:11yalʕabūnᵃ(are at) play
۝٢
No mention comes to them anew from their Lord except that they listen to it while they are at play
21:3:1lāhiyaẗᵃⁿDistracted
21:3:2qulūbuhumtheir hearts.
21:3:3waʾasarrūAnd they conceal
21:3:4ₐlnnajwāthe private conversation,
21:3:5ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
21:3:6ẓalamū[they] wronged,
21:3:9ʾillāexcept
21:3:10bašarᵘⁿa human being
21:3:12ʾafataʾtūnᵃSo would you approach
21:3:13ₐlssiḥrᵃthe magic
21:3:14waʾantumwhile you
21:3:15tubṣirūnᵃsee (it)?"
۝٣
With their hearts distracted. And those who do wrong conceal their private conversation, [saying], "Is this [Prophet] except a human being like you? So would you approach magic while you are aware [of it]?"
21:4:1qālᵃHe said,
21:4:2rabbī"My Lord
21:4:3yaʕlamᵘknows
21:4:4ₐlqawlᵃthe word
21:4:6ₐlssamāʾⁱthe heavens
21:4:7waₐlʾarḍⁱand the earth.
21:4:8wahuwᵃAnd He
21:4:9ₐlssamīʕᵘ(is) the All-Hearer,
21:4:10ₐlʕalīmᵘthe All-Knower."
۝٤
The Prophet said, "My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing."
21:5:3ʾaḍġāθᵘ"Muddled
21:5:4ʾaḥlāmⁱⁿdreams;
21:5:5balⁱnay,
21:5:6ᵢftarāhᵘhe (has) invented it;
21:5:9šāʕirᵘⁿ(is) a poet.
21:5:10falyaʾtināSo let him bring us
21:5:11biʾāyaẗⁱⁿa sign
21:5:12kamālike what
21:5:13ʾursilᵃwas sent
21:5:14ₐlʾawwalūnᵃ(to) the former."
۝٥
But they say, "[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles]."
21:6:2ʾāmanatbelieved
21:6:3qablahumbefore them
21:6:5qaryaẗⁱⁿtown
21:6:6ʾahlaknāhāwhich We destroyed,
21:6:7ʾafahumso will they
21:6:8yuʾminūnᵃbelieve?
۝٦
Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them, so will they believe?
21:7:1wamāAnd not
21:7:3qablakᵃbefore you
21:7:4ʾillāexcept
21:7:6nnūḥīWe revealed
21:7:9ʾahlᵃ(the) people
21:7:10ₐlððikrⁱ(of) the Reminder,
21:7:13(do) not
۝٧
And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know.
21:8:1wamāAnd not
21:8:2jaʕalnāhumWe made them
21:8:3jasadaⁿbodies
21:8:5yaʾkulūnᵃeating
21:8:6ₐlṭṭaʕāmᵃthe food,
21:8:7wamāand not
21:8:8kānūthey were
21:8:9ḫālidīnᵃimmortals.
۝٨
And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal [on earth].
21:9:1θummᵃThen
21:9:2ṣadaqnāhumᵘWe fulfilled (for) them
21:9:3ₐlwaʕdᵃthe promise,
21:9:4faʾanjaynāhumand We saved them
21:9:5wamanand whom
21:9:6nnašāʾᵘWe willed,
21:9:7waʾahlaknāand We destroyed
21:9:8ₐlmusrifīnᵃthe transgressors.
۝٩
Then We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors.
21:10:2ʾanzalnāWe (have) sent down
21:10:4kitābaⁿa Book
21:10:5fīhⁱin it
21:10:6ðikrukum(is) your mention.
21:10:7ʾafalāThen will not
21:10:8taʕqilūnᵃyou use reason?
۝١٠
We have certainly sent down to you a Book in which is your mention. Then will you not reason?
21:11:1wakamAnd how many
21:11:2qaṣamnāWe (have) shattered
21:11:4qaryaẗⁱⁿa town
21:11:5kānat(that) was
21:11:6ẓālimaẗᵃⁿunjust,
21:11:7waʾanšaʾnāand We produced
21:11:8baʕdahāafter them
21:11:9qawmaⁿanother people.
۝١١
And how many a city which was unjust have We shattered and produced after it another people.
21:12:1falammāThen when
21:12:2ʾaḥassūthey perceived
21:12:3baʾsanāOur torment,
21:12:4ʾiðābehold,
21:12:7yarkuḍūnᵃwere fleeing.
۝١٢
And when its inhabitants perceived Our punishment, at once they fled from it.
21:13:1Flee not,
21:13:3waᵢrjiʕūbut return
21:13:6ʾutriftumyou were given luxury
21:13:7fīhⁱin it
21:13:8wamasākinikumand to your homes,
21:13:9laʕallakumso that you may
21:13:10tusʾalūnᵃbe questioned.
۝١٣
[Some angels said], "Do not flee but return to where you were given luxury and to your homes - perhaps you will be questioned."
21:14:1qālūThey said,
21:14:2yāwaylanā"O woe to us!
21:14:3ʾinnāIndeed, [we]
21:14:4kunnāwe were
21:14:5ẓālimīnᵃwrongdoers."
۝١٤
They said, "O woe to us! Indeed, we were wrongdoers."
21:15:1famāThen not
21:15:3ttilkᵃ[this]
21:15:6jaʕalnāhumWe made them
21:15:7ḥaṣīdaⁿreaped
21:15:8ḫāmidīnᵃextinct.
۝١٥
And that declaration of theirs did not cease until We made them [as] a harvest [mowed down], extinguished [like a fire].
21:16:1wamāAnd not
21:16:2ḫalaqnāWe created
21:16:3ₐlssamāʾᵃthe heavens
21:16:4waₐlʾarḍᵃand the earth
21:16:5wamāand what
21:16:6baynahumā(is) between them
21:16:7lāʕibīnᵃ(for) playing.
۝١٦
And We did not create the heaven and earth and that between them in play.
21:17:2ʾaradnāWe intended
21:17:4nnattaḫiðᵃWe take
21:17:5lahwaⁿa pastime,
21:17:6llaᵢttaḫaðnāhᵘsurely We (could have) taken it
21:17:11fāʕilīnᵃdoers.
۝١٧
Had We intended to take a diversion, We could have taken it from [what is] with Us - if [indeed] We were to do so.
21:18:2naqðifᵘWe hurl
21:18:3biₐlḥaqqⁱthe truth
21:18:4ʕalāagainst
21:18:5ₐlbāṭilⁱ[the] falsehood,
21:18:6fayadmaġuhuand it breaks its head,
21:18:7faʾiðābehold,
21:18:8huwᵃit (is)
21:18:9zāhiqᵘⁿvanishing.
21:18:10walakumᵘAnd for you
21:18:11ₐlwaylᵘ(is) destruction
21:18:12mimmāfor what
21:18:13taṣifūnᵃyou ascribe.
۝١٨
Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood, and it destroys it, and thereupon it departs. And for you is destruction from that which you describe.
21:19:1walahuAnd to Him (belongs)
21:19:2manwhoever
21:19:3(is) in
21:19:4ₐlssamāwātⁱthe heavens
21:19:5waₐlʾarḍⁱand the earth.
21:19:6wamanAnd (those) who
21:19:7ʕindahu(are) near Him
21:19:9yastakbirūnᵃthey are arrogant
21:19:11ʕibādatihiworship Him
21:19:12walāand not
21:19:13yastaḥsirūnᵃthey tire.
۝١٩
To Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And those near Him are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, nor do they tire.
21:20:1yusabbiḥūnᵃThey glorify (Him)
21:20:2ₐllaylᵃ[the] night
21:20:3waₐlnnahārᵃand [the] day,
21:20:5yafturūnᵃthey slacken.
۝٢٠
They exalt [Him] night and day [and] do not slacken.
21:21:2ᵢttaḫaðū(have) they taken
21:21:3ʾālihaẗᵃⁿgods
21:21:5ₐlʾarḍⁱthe earth,
21:21:7yunširūnᵃraise (the dead)?
۝٢١
Or have men taken for themselves gods from the earth who resurrect [the dead]?
21:22:2kānᵃ(there) were
21:22:3fīhimāin both of them
21:22:4ʾālihaẗᵘⁿgods
21:22:5ʾillābesides
21:22:6ₐllahᵘAllah,
21:22:7lafasadatāsurely they (would) have been ruined.
21:22:8fasubḥānᵃSo glorified
21:22:9ₐllahⁱ(is) Allah,
21:22:11ₐlʕaršⁱ(of) the Throne
21:22:12ʕammā(above) what
21:22:13yaṣifūnᵃthey attribute.
۝٢٢
Had there been within the heavens and earth gods besides Allah, they both would have been ruined. So exalted is Allah, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe.
21:23:2yusʾalᵘHe (can) be questioned
21:23:3ʕammāabout what
21:23:4yafʕalᵘHe does,
21:23:5wahumbut they
21:23:6yusʾalūnᵃwill be questioned.
۝٢٣
He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned.
21:24:2ᵢttaḫaðū(have) they taken
21:24:3minbesides Him
21:24:5ʾālihaẗᵃⁿgods?
21:24:8burhānakumyour proof.
21:24:10ðikrᵘ(is) a Reminder
21:24:11man(for those) who
21:24:12mmaʕīᵃ(are) with me,
21:24:13waðikrᵘand a Reminder
21:24:14man(for those) who
21:24:15qablī(were) before me."
21:24:17ʾakθaruhummost of them
21:24:18(do) not
21:24:20ₐlḥaqqᵃthe truth
21:24:21fahumso they
21:24:22mmuʕriḍūnᵃ(are) averse.
۝٢٤
Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, [O Muhammad], "Produce your proof. This [Qur'an] is the message for those with me and the message of those before me." But most of them do not know the truth, so they are turning away.
21:25:3minbefore you
21:25:6rrasūlⁱⁿMessenger
21:25:8nūḥīWe reveal(ed)
21:25:9ʾilayhⁱto him
21:25:10ʾannahuthat [He],
21:25:11"(There is) no
21:25:15faᵤʕbudūnⁱso worship Me."
۝٢٥
And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, "There is no deity except Me, so worship Me."
21:26:1waqālūAnd they say,
21:26:2ᵢttaḫaðᵃ"Has taken
21:26:3ₐlrraḥmānᵘthe Most Gracious
21:26:4waladaⁿa son."
21:26:5subḥānahuGlorified is He!
21:26:7ʕibādᵘⁿ(they are) slaves
21:26:8mmukramūnᵃhonored.
۝٢٦
And they say, "The Most Merciful has taken a son." Exalted is He! Rather, they are [but] honored servants.
21:27:2yasbiqūnahuthey (can) precede Him
21:27:3biₐlqawlⁱin word,
21:27:4wahumand they
21:27:5biʾamrihiby His command
۝٢٧
They cannot precede Him in word, and they act by His command.
21:28:1yaʕlamᵘHe knows
21:28:3baynᵃ(is) before them,
21:28:5wamāand what
21:28:6ḫalfahum(is) behind them,
21:28:7walāand not
21:28:8yašfaʕūnᵃthey (can) intercede
21:28:9ʾillāexcept
21:28:10limanⁱfor whom
21:28:11ᵢrtaḍāHe approves.
21:28:12wahumAnd they,
21:28:14ḫašyatihifear of Him,
21:28:15mušfiqūnᵃstand in awe.
۝٢٨
He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they cannot intercede except on behalf of one whom He approves. And they, from fear of Him, are apprehensive.
