24:3:1ₐlzzānīThe fornicator
24:3:2(will) not
24:3:3yankiḥᵘmarry
24:3:4ʾillāexcept

24:4:1waₐllaðīnᵃAnd those who
24:4:2yarmūnᵃaccuse
24:4:3ₐlmuḥṣanātⁱthe chaste women,
24:4:4θummᵃthen
24:4:6yaʾtūthey bring
24:4:7biʾarbaʕaẗⁱfour
24:4:8šuhadāʾᵃwitnesses,

۝٤
And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient,
24:5:1ʾillāExcept
24:5:2ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
24:5:4minᵐafter
24:5:6ðālikᵃthat
24:5:7waʾaṣlaḥūand reform.
24:5:8faʾinnᵃThen indeed,
24:5:9ₐllahᵃAllah
24:5:10ġafūrᵘⁿ(is) Oft-Forgiving,
24:5:11rraḥīmᵘⁿMost Merciful.
۝٥
Except for those who repent thereafter and reform, for indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
24:6:1waₐllaðīnᵃAnd those who
24:6:2yarmūnᵃaccuse
24:6:3ʾazwājahumtheir spouses
24:6:4walamand not
24:6:6llahumfor them
24:6:7šuhadāʾᵘwitnesses

24:6:12ʾarbaʕᵘ(is) four
24:6:13šahādātⁱⁿtestimonies
24:6:14biₐllahⁱby Allah,
24:6:16laminᵃ(is) surely of
24:6:17ₐlṣṣādiqīnᵃthe truthful.
۝٦
And those who accuse their wives [of adultery] and have no witnesses except themselves - then the witness of one of them [shall be] four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is of the truthful.
24:7:1waₐlḫāmisaẗᵘAnd the fifth
24:7:2ʾannᵃthat
24:7:3laʕnatᵃ(the) curse of Allah
24:7:5ʕalayhⁱ(be) upon him
24:7:7kānᵃhe is
24:7:9ₐlkāðibīnᵃthe liars.
۝٧
And the fifth [oath will be] that the curse of Allah be upon him if he should be among the liars.
24:8:1wayadraʾuBut it would prevent
24:8:2ʕanhāfrom her
24:8:3ₐlʕaðābᵃthe punishment
24:8:4ʾanthat
24:8:5tašhadᵃshe bears witness
24:8:6ʾarbaʕᵃfour
24:8:7šahādātⁱⁿtestimonies
24:8:8biₐllahⁱby Allah
24:8:9ʾinnahuthat he
24:8:10laminᵃ(is) surely of
24:8:11ₐlkāðibīnᵃthe liars.
۝٨
But it will prevent punishment from her if she gives four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is of the liars.
24:9:1waₐlḫāmisaẗᵃAnd the fifth,
24:9:2ʾannᵃthat
24:9:3ġaḍabᵃthe wrath of Allah
24:9:5ʕalayhā(be) upon her
24:9:7kānᵃhe is
24:9:9ₐlṣṣādiqīnᵃthe truthful.
۝٩
And the fifth [oath will be] that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he was of the truthful.
24:10:1walawlāAnd if not
24:10:2faḍlᵘ(for) the Grace of Allah
24:10:5waraḥmatuhuand His Mercy -
24:10:6waʾannᵃand that,
24:10:7ₐllahᵃAllah
24:10:8tawwābᵘⁿ(is) Oft-Returning (to Mercy),
24:10:9ḥakīmᵘⁿAll-Wise.
۝١٠
And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is Accepting of repentance and Wise.
24:11:1ʾinnᵃIndeed,
24:11:2ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
24:11:3jāʾūbrought
24:11:4biₐlʾifkⁱthe lie
24:11:5ʕuṣbaẗᵘⁿ(are) a group
24:11:6mminkumamong you.
24:11:7(Do) not
24:11:8taḥsabūhᵘthink it
24:11:10llakumfor you;
24:11:13ḫayrᵘⁿ(is) good
24:11:15likullⁱFor every
24:11:16ᵢmriʾⁱⁿperson
24:11:17mminhumamong them
24:11:18mmā(is) what
24:11:19ᵢktasabᵃhe earned
24:11:21ₐlʾiθmⁱthe sin,
24:11:22waₐllaðīand the one who
24:11:23tawallātook upon himself a greater share of it
24:11:25minhumamong them -
24:11:27ʕaðābᵘⁿ(is) a punishment
24:11:28ʕaẓīmᵘⁿgreat.
۝١١
Indeed, those who came with falsehood are a group among you. Do not think it bad for you; rather it is good for you. For every person among them is what [punishment] he has earned from the sin, and he who took upon himself the greater portion thereof - for him is a great punishment.
24:12:3samiʕtumūhᵘyou heard it,
24:12:4ẓannᵃthink
24:12:5ₐlmuʾminūnᵃthe believing men
24:12:6waₐlmuʾminātᵘand the believing women
24:12:7biʾanfusihimgood of themselves
24:12:11ʾifkᵘⁿ(is) a lie
24:12:12mmubīnᵘⁿclear?"
۝١٢
Why, when you heard it, did not the believing men and believing women think good of one another and say, "This is an obvious falsehood"?
24:13:1llawlāWhy (did) not
24:13:2jāʾūthey bring
24:13:3ʕalayhⁱfor it
24:13:4biʾarbaʕaẗⁱfour
24:13:5šuhadāʾᵃwitnesses?
24:13:6faʾiðThen when
24:13:8yaʾtūthey brought
24:13:9biₐlššuhadāʾⁱthe witnesses,
24:13:10faʾulāʾikᵃthen those
24:13:11ʕindᵃnear Allah,
24:13:14ₐlkāðibūnᵃ(are) the liars.
۝١٣
Why did they [who slandered] not produce for it four witnesses? And when they do not produce the witnesses, then it is they, in the sight of Allah, who are the liars.
24:14:1walawlāAnd if not
24:14:2faḍlᵘ(for the) Grace
24:14:3ₐllahⁱ(of) Allah
24:14:5waraḥmatuhuand His Mercy
24:14:7ₐlddunyāthe world
24:14:8waₐlʾāḫiraẗⁱand the Hereafter,
24:14:9lamassakumsurely would have touched you
24:14:12ʾafaḍtumyou had rushed glibly
24:14:13fīhⁱconcerning it
24:14:14ʕaðābᵘⁿa punishment
24:14:15ʕaẓīmᵘⁿgreat.
۝١٤
And if it had not been for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy in this world and the Hereafter, you would have been touched for that [lie] in which you were involved by a great punishment
24:15:2talaqqawnahuyou received it
24:15:3biʾalsinatikumwith your tongues
24:15:4wataqūlūnᵃand you said
24:15:5biʾafwāhikumwith your mouths
24:15:8lakumfor you
24:15:10ʕilmᵘⁿany knowledge,
24:15:11wataḥsabūnahuand you thought it
24:15:12hayyinaⁿ(was) insignificant,
24:15:13wahuwᵃwhile it
24:15:14ʕindᵃ(was) near Allah
24:15:16ʕaẓīmᵘⁿgreat.
۝١٥
When you received it with your tongues and said with your mouths that of which you had no knowledge and thought it was insignificant while it was, in the sight of Allah, tremendous.
24:16:1walawlāAnd why not,
24:16:3samiʕtumūhᵘyou heard it,
24:16:4qultumyou said,
24:16:6yakūnᵘit is
24:16:9nnatakallamᵃwe speak
24:16:10bihāðāof this.
24:16:11subḥānakᵃGlory be to You!
24:16:13buhtānᵘⁿ(is) a slander
24:16:14ʕaẓīmᵘⁿgreat?"
۝١٦
And why, when you heard it, did you not say, "It is not for us to speak of this. Exalted are You, [O Allah]; this is a great slander"?
24:17:1yaʕiẓukumᵘAllah warns you
24:17:4taʕūdūyou return
24:17:5limiθlihi(to the) like of it
24:17:6ʾabadaⁿever,
24:17:8kuntumyou are
24:17:9mmuʾminīnᵃbelievers.
۝١٧
Allah warns you against returning to the likes of this [conduct], ever, if you should be believers.
24:18:1wayubayyinᵘAnd Allah makes clear
24:18:3lakumᵘto you
24:18:4ₐlʾāyātⁱthe Verses.
24:18:5waₐllahᵘAnd Allah
24:18:6ʕalīmᵘⁿ(is) All-Knower,
24:18:7ḥakīmᵘⁿAll-Wise.
۝١٨
And Allah makes clear to you the verses, and Allah is Knowing and Wise.
24:19:1ʾinnᵃIndeed,
24:19:2ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
24:19:3yuḥibbūnᵃlike
24:19:5tašīʕᵃ(should) spread
24:19:6ₐlfāḥišaẗᵘthe immorality
24:19:8ₐllaðīnᵃthose who
24:19:11ʕaðābᵘⁿ(is) a punishment
24:19:12ʾalīmᵘⁿpainful
24:19:14ₐlddunyāthe world
24:19:15waₐlʾāḫiraẗⁱand the Hereafter.
24:19:16waₐllahᵘAnd Allah
24:19:17yaʕlamᵘknows,
24:19:18waʾantumwhile you
24:19:19(do) not
۝١٩
Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread [or publicized] among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allah knows and you do not know.
24:20:1walawlāAnd if not
24:20:2faḍlᵘ(for the) Grace of Allah
24:20:5waraḥmatuhuand His Mercy.
24:20:6waʾannᵃAnd that
24:20:7ₐllahᵃAllah
24:20:8raʾūfᵘⁿ(is) Full of Kindness,
24:20:9rraḥīmᵘⁿMost Merciful.
۝٢٠
And if it had not been for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is Kind and Merciful.
