89:8:4miθluhālike them
89:8:6ₐlbilādⁱthe cities,
۝٨
The likes of whom had never been created in the land?
89:9:1waθamūdᵃAnd Thamud,
89:9:2ₐllaðīnᵃwho

And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley?
89:10:1wafirʕawnᵃAnd Firaun,
89:10:2ðīowner of

۝١٠
And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? -

۝١٢
And increased therein the corruption.
89:13:1faṣabbᵃSo poured
89:13:3rabbukᵃyour Lord

۝١٣
So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.
89:14:1ʾinnᵃIndeed,
89:14:2rabbakᵃyour Lord

89:15:8wanaʕʕamahuand favors him,
89:15:9fayaqūlᵘhe says,
89:15:11ʾakramanⁱhas honored me."
۝١٥
And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."
89:16:4ᵢbtalāhᵘHe try him
89:16:5faqadarᵃand restricts

۝١٦
But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."
89:17:4tukrimūnᵃyou honor

۝١٧
No! But you do not honor the orphan
89:18:1walāAnd not
89:18:2taḥāḍḍūnᵃyou feel the urge
89:18:4ṭaʕāmⁱfeed
89:18:5ₐlmiskīnⁱthe poor.
۝١٨
And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.
89:19:1wataʾkulūnᵃAnd you consume
89:19:2ₐltturāθᵃthe inheritance
89:19:3ʾaklaⁿdevouring
89:19:4llammaⁿaltogether,
۝١٩
And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,
89:20:1watuḥibbūnᵃAnd you love

And you love wealth with immense love.
89:21:3dukkatⁱis leveled
89:21:4ₐlʾarḍᵘthe earth,
89:21:5dakkaⁿpounded,
89:21:6dakkaⁿ(and) crushed,
۝٢١
No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed -
89:22:1wajāʾᵃAnd comes
89:22:2rabbukᵃyour Lord
89:22:3waₐlmalakᵘand the Angels,
89:22:4ṣaffaⁿrank,
89:22:5ṣaffaⁿ(upon) rank,
۝٢٢
And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank,
89:23:1wajiāʾᵃAnd is brought,
89:23:2yawmaʾiðⁱⁿthat Day,
89:23:4yawmaʾiðⁱⁿThat Day
89:23:5yataðakkarᵘwill remember
89:23:8lahᵘ(will be) for him
89:23:9ₐlððikrāthe remembrance?
۝٢٣
And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance?
89:24:1yaqūlᵘHe will say,
89:24:2yālaytanī"O I wish!
89:24:3qaddamtᵘI had sent forth
89:24:4liḥayātīfor my life."
۝٢٤
He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."
89:25:1fayawmaʾiðⁱⁿSo that Day
89:25:3yuʕaððibᵘwill punish,
89:25:4ʕaðābahu(as) His punishment
89:25:5ʾaḥadᵘⁿanyone.
۝٢٥
So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,

۝٢٦
And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].
